1.      Learning what’s in the Unified School Budget for 2019-20
The work on the School Budget for the Unified District (Dover and Wardsboro) has been following a timeline created this past September. The budget meetings of the RVUSD Board are open public meetings. There will be informational meetings prior to the vote on the unified school budget so that voters can learn how this year’s figures cover the educational costs in both towns. These are at the Annual Meeting held in Wardsboro on February 12, 2019, and at the regular RVUSD meeting held in Dover on February 18, 2019.
The school budget will show that line items for every expense in the budget are combined, and not broken out for each school separately. WCSU Superintendent Bill Anton said, “The members of the River Valleys school board have worked responsibly and respectfully to create a equitable school budget for the new unified district. In the voting coming up in 2019, the voters will have the opportunity to vote Yes or No on the budget by ballot.” The entire budget will be published in advance of the voting in Town Reports, and available at the budget meetings. It will be available on the web sites.  Copies will be available at the Town Clerks’ offices and schools in both towns.

2.      When and where the next Unified School District  Meeting is being held
For the first time, in 2019, there will be no Wardsboro School meeting and no Dover School Meeting. There will be one River Valleys Unified School District meeting on February 12, 2019 at 7pm at Wardsboro Town Hall. This is an open public meeting. At this meeting, there will be no floor vote for the school budget, and there will be no floor nominations or vote for the election of board members. Those votes will be by ballot this year – explained below.

There is a wealth of information about the RVUSD at www.rvusd.net. On that webpage, you can read all the past minutes of the meetings, watch all the videos of the past meetings going back to July 2017, read the current unified district’s school policies, and you can review the Act 46 Articles of Agreement that were approved by the voters of both Dover and Wardsboro.       It’s a user-friendly website, and there is no sign in and no app is needed.
There’s an easy link to ask questions right on the homepage. Or, concerned citizens can contact any RVUSD Board Member in person.

It’s easy to register to vote. Go to the Town Clerk’s office, and fill out the application, or go to the official VT State website - www.sec.state.vt.us/elections/frequently-asked-questions/voter-registration.aspx.
